6th IPCC Assessment Report
The 6th and final Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) Assessment Report (AR6) is here.
Does it really give us much? I would say nope but it 100% tells us that, when it comes to our planet, we do not have time to waste.
And please don't @ me with questions like "But how about China and the US?", "But I am only one person, can I really make a difference?"...
My answer to these questions is - “Would you rather sit on your hands while the world screams for help?”
I know I don't and I won't…
Yes, this report makes for grim reading.
Across almost 8k pages, the report details the devastating consequences of rising greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions around the world - the destruction of homes, the loss of livelihoods and the fragmentation of communities, to name a few - as well as the increasingly dangerous and irreversible risks should we fail to change course.
➖And you know what? As horrible as they sound, these things have to be said. In this case, ignorance isn't bliss. We ought to know what's going on so we can all help.
But it’s not all doom and gloom - the IPCC report also offers hope, highlighting pathways to avoid these scary risks. It identifies readily available, and in some cases, highly cost-effective actions that can be undertaken now to reduce GHG emissions, scale up carbon removal and build resilience. While the window to address the climate crisis is rapidly closing, the IPCC affirms that we can still secure a safe, livable future.
I am holding onto those words and using fear and uncertainty as fuel!
And I mean it when I say - if you need help, get in touch. I want to help you.
